Ward No 31: Struggling with superior powers
GURGAON: Small ward area and little work mark the past two years of Ward No. 31 of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon. The ward covers urban areas like Ardee City, Indira Colony I and II and Sector 52 and rural areas like Wazirabad village.
The ward was reserved during the municipal elections for 'backward class' and the councilor was elected out of the Wazirabad village.

However, like most other wards, the picture remains the same, with the councilor expressing helplessness in "performing", due to the non-cooperation of the authorities. Of the four regions, MCG work amounting to Rs 1,086 lakh has been sanctioned (or underway) only at Indira Colony and Wazirabad village.
Non-compliance in transferring both HUDA sectors and the builder developed areas to the corporation has left residents fuming.
"I can do little to improve the status of infrastructure both in Ardee City as well as Sector 52 as MCG has not taken over these areas, despite the local residents voting for me. As for the village, I have been successful in getting RMC roads, sewerage connections and a 80-year-old village chaupal is under renovation," said councilor of the ward, Ashok.
As for the condition of Ardee City, roads and streetlights are in a dilapidated state, as repairs works have not been carried out for close to half-a-decade.
Residents allege that the builder refuses to handover occupation certificates and demands "payments" for the same.
"I need to transfer my loan from one bank to another for which I need certain documents from my builder. However, every time I approach them, I'm turned away in want of payments which they have paid to authorities concerned," said Mohun, a resident of Ardee City.

Attempts to reach the developer for a comment proved futile till filing of this report.
State of roads, pavements and street lights are not very different in HUDA areas. Petty thefts keep residents wary of traveling after sundown, adds the councilor.
The overall voters as per previous elections were over 10,000, which is expected to rise with additional occupancy in the ward.
